Smart References help you see where the AI drew its content from. Rather than presenting a summary as if it appeared from nowhere, Smart References connect parts of the summary back to the source material, so you can check the basis for what the AI has written.
This is particularly important in social care, where you need to be able to stand behind every line of a record.
How Smart References work
Smart References add citations to the summary that link back to the relevant part of the original transcript or content. Turn them on using the Smart References toggle in the detail panel.
Citations appear inline within the summary text, linking each point back to the source material.
Smart References stay available as you move between the different views of a note.
If you re-summarise a note or use Edit with AI, Smart References reset automatically so they always reflect the current content.
When to use Smart References
Use Smart References when you want to:
Verify that the AI has accurately represented what was said or written.
Check the source of a specific detail in the summary before finalising the record.
Identify any parts of the summary that may need correction or further review.
